Water Muhfuggers Win Medals in Tempe Arizona!!

Seven Muhfuggers/Space Dragons went to Tempe AZ this past weekend to paddle their asses off in the 6th annual AZDBA DragonBoat festival. Caesar, Deej, Jeremy, Charlie, Blanca, Tammy, and Brian performed well on the water and brought home hardware. Some highlights:

Both RED Team(Ceez, Deej, Brian, Charlie, Jeremy and Tammy) & BLUE (Blanca) qualified for the top division in the tournament, Mixed Division A (reserved for the top 12 of 32 boats in the competition).

Although paddle rookie, Blanca, did not medal this weekend, her contributions help elevate her Blue boat to compete against some of the big boys in the tournament. Her Blue boat met up with dragon boat giants San Diego and UC San Diego in the semi finals on Sunday. Although they were eliminated, it was an incredible feat that the Space Dragon's B-team boat paddled themselves into the top division and raced the best to try and get to the finals.

RED brings home hardware with a bronze medal w/ a 3rd place overall finish (behind mighty San Diego & blazing UCLA) in the 500m mixed division. They fought through the elimination round & edging out the head-turning Manitoba High School (Canada) in the finals.

After two straight 1st place finishes on Sat, the MEN finish 2nd place overall in the Open Division behind mighty San Diego. Our Muhfugger men left Tempe w/ the 2nd fastest 500m time of the weekend!!

The Geri-crew MASTERS (Over 40 old farts Ceez, Deej and Tammy) brought home 2nd place hardware after finishing just a few grey hairs behind great competitors DragonMax ( from northern California) in the Master's Final.

With a very close 4th place seeding after Sat, our LADIES were just edged out from participating in the Women's Final (reserved for the top 3 of 9) & guaranteed hardware. Good job ladies!!

After a 4th place finish in the 250m sprints, RED closed out the weekend right w/ a thrillingly close 2nd place overall finish for the silver behind mighty San Diego in the Guts & Glory 1000m race.

Congratulations water Muhfuggers for your success on the water.

If there are any announcements, accomplishments, news, gossip concerning we Muhfuggers. Please let me know so we can post it.

When sliding into home, you prefer to hit it hard or glide in? glide in before the final hit!
When you trim the grass, do you cut it down to the bare dirt, trimmed for infield, or grow it wild as outfield rough? Depends on the holiday.

On your last date….did you get to first base? Got to second? Got to third? Hit the homerun? Or stayed in the dugout and not play?

Yes, Yes, Not to my recollection!

(Men) T or A? (Women) You prefer muscular arms or a six pack?
Muscle Arms and love handles.

When you or a Muhfugger "f*cks Up" out in the field, you:
A) Laugh at the person then tell the person "nice try!!"
B) Laugh at yourself, then tell yourself nice try.
C) Either A, B or C is correct.
D) Get mad, throw equipment, pout …then get kicked off the team for violating team rules and acting like an A-Hole.

Laugh at the person, then throw equipment at them and call them an A-Hole!

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Muhfugger: Brian Kellough
Jersey: HARD WOOD
Hometown: Harrison, ME
Birthday: 4/14
Favorite Positions (softball): shortstop/ second base, but anywhere is fine
Why do you play softball? : Its fun to play, and can be laid back or as competitive as you want to make it, at the end of the night it’s not serious and it’s about having fun. I have plenty of competitive nights for sports so playing for the Muhfuggers will be my reprieve and allow me to just have fun for a night!
You prefer T or A?: BOTH
What do you do when not playing softball with the muhfuggers? Play softball for Snap It Off men’s team Thursdays, Paddle for The Space Dragons Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, brew my own beers (got a red sox red, and a bitchin blonde ready in a week) anything outdoors or anything new and exciting.
Favorite drink or beverage? Makers Mark, Jamison, Tang and Tonics, most beers, and any beer I brewed myself
Do you wear a cup for protection? Hell Yes, gotta protect the family jewels
Most memorable experience? 1.) Winning the POI pounders first CO-ED A championship back in 2005, it was sweet champagne showers and all, like we won the World Series. We partied till early morning and the cops kicked us out of the park. We won it again the next year and everyone was like, whatever not nearly as fun. 2.) Deedra’s Pikachu dance
What wood you swing? (bat type and size): This year I’ll be switching to hardwood. Gonna be swinging a maple “A” bat size 34/32 oz balanced
Do you finish with one hand or two? :I mix it up depending on how I feel that night, sometimes you feel like finishing with one hand and sometimes 2. Depends on my mood.
Any injury from being struck by soft balls or ever been hit in the face by balls? Just some bruises on my shins from misplaying the ball, luckily no serious injuries. Never been hit in the face with a softball, broke my nose twice with baseballs once it high school and before that when I was around 10 years old
When you trim the grass, do you cut it down to the bare dirt, trimmed for infield, or it grow wild as outfield rough?: Bare dirt around home plate AND trimmed infield for the rest
Any advice for new players? Enjoy it, and don’t take it to seriously, don’t worry about making mistakes or doing something wrong, it doesn’t matter. The sole purpose of this team is to have fun, anything aside from that means nothing. If you find we are laughing at you, that’s your fault because you should be laughing at yourself hence we should be laughing WITH you! It’s all good fun; even the best players make mistakes. And if you have a question just ask.
Do you wanna make luff to Coach Caesar? NO! But if the two of us were serving a jail sentence of more than a year, he’d be on my radar.

History

History
Started in 2009, the Muhfuggers are a misfit softball team in the Northrop Grumman League in Redondo Beach, California. Caesar "Papa Poi" Longboy, former founder of the Poi Pounders, decided to return to softball.

Retired from softball for 5 years, he always thought it would be cool to have a team called the Muhfuggers. He half heartedly wanted to create a team that was "fun" again. A team where players of different skill levels and a myriad of personalities can converge to make one great team ... a team that will be known around the league as the team that has the most fun, win or lose. He knew the Muhfuggers name itself would either would evoke a smile or a gasp whenever spoken or heard. However, it was just a notion that he and his friends were kicking around throughout his years of retirement.

El Guapo, Rico Rivas, a loyal Poi Pounder throughout the years, contacted Caesar when he heard that he was thinking of making a come back with a "misfit" team. "Is it true that you are making a B league team? I want to play on a fun team. I am tired of blowing out other teams!!" he says. "I got players!! How much do we need??"

Caesar shrugged. "Nah, I don't think so" Because he never thought he going to find enough players to field a team anyway. Besides, Caesar's legs were shot after years of softball. Not to mention, he sucks at softball!! Why would he do a stupid thing like fielding a team?

Another Poi Pounder, Pedro "Marionetta" Frias, also inquired about the team and urged Caesar to make it happen. Caesar felt if he made a team, Pedro would really be able to showcase his talents.

The cries for a misfit team and the inquiries grew. The gang started talking about "remember whens" more frequently. Future prospect players were frequently coming up with great ideas if there was a team.

More, the thoughts of making the Muhfuggers haunted his thoughts and permeated his dreams. Caesar thought he'd ask around just to see who would be interested. He was surprised that there was actually quite a few people out there willing to play on a misfit team. So much, that he had to turn away a few people.

After he consulted with his most favorite girl in the entire universe, Deej (also a former Poi Pounder), the Muhfuggers concept became a reality!!

SEASON BEGINS!!

Welcome, Hola and Aloha!!

Welcome to the Muhfuggers inaugural season. You are the first of many Muhfuggers to come to this organization. The season starts April 14th. So dust off and oil that glove, because you will need it.

I know you are excited because you decided to play on a “fun” team. On this team, our goal is not to put W’s in the win column. Our mission this year is to gather a bunch of misfits and amass some good times.

This year will not be without challenge. Some players, new to the “fun” concept, will find it difficult to adjust. An important challenge on this team, and this is probably our most important challenge, is …will you be able to laugh at yourself or at a player of lesser skill… when you/they strikes out or drops a fly ball and cost the Muhfuggers the game?
Can you conceal and imbibe questionable beverages in the parking lot without getting your team kicked out of the league because of the league’s zero tolerance law on drinking alcohol in the parking lot?
Can you deal with the myriad of personalities on the team? When the players curse? Play jokes & tease each other as well as those on the other team? How do you feel about lesbians?
Will you be able to handle my bad grammar and crappy jokes in the Muhfugger newsletters and on the blog entries? (I’m from Hawaii!! We talk funny!!)
These are some of the challenges you will encounter and deal with as the season progresses.

We will have players on the team that have A-League skills. We will have players that are learning the game. If you are hoping to get on a team that is ultra competitive, the Muhfuggers may not be for you. Perhaps we can point you to our A-League affiliate, the Poi Pounders. I am hoping that the A-League type players we have will be patient and encourage the softball challenged players to get better and have fun. On the other hand, I hope the softball challenged players can show the better players that you don’t have to have mad softball skills to have fun while playing softball.

We are the Muhfuggers. We will get along whether you are a great player or you suck….black, white latino or Filipino…. Beer Warrior or Soda freak. We are a team.

If you want to improve your skills prior to the start of the season, please see any of the coaches or players. I am sure they will be willing to help you play better. Since you will be having fun, you might as well learn the friggin game too.

If you have any problems, please see me or the other coaches. We will do our best to make sure you have a great season.

If you know me, I want to make sure we are the team that has the most laughs, that we have team closeness and that we have the best looking jerseys in the league!!

I hope everyone have a kick ass season!! You rotten Muhfuggers!!

Caesar

P.S. If you cause drama, you are a cry baby about playing time or anything else, and you hit more than two homeruns this season…YOU ARE CUT!! : )
